It was 16th October 2010. We reached Ukhimath Bharat Sevasram at 10:00 p.m. Due to land slide between Srinagar and Rudraprayag we took Chamba – Tehri – Ghansali - Tilwara route. This made us extra 40 k.m. travel. Just before Chamba, clutch plate of our ‘GARIYA JI’ (our car) had been broken. It took another 3 ½ hours for repair. For these incidents we spared about 5 hours. We quickly took our dinner and go to bed because of tiredness.
At first it was decided that everybody would go to Deoria Tal and from there, we 8 members would go to Tunganath and the remaining 8 members would return to Ukhimath. But yesterday’s incidents made the last 8 members much lazy. They decided to take rest. So we the ‘Group of 8’ started at 8 a.m. for Sari village by our ‘GARIYA JI’. We reached Sari at 8:30 a.m. There we take our tea and breakfast and arranged a car for Chopta @800/- from Lakhpat Singh Negi. We hired a horse for Shreya (our youngest trekker) at Rs. 200/-.
The total journey was 2 ½ km. at an elevation of 2387 mt. We started our hiking around 9:30 a.m. It was sunny day, the sky was clear. The road from Sari was steep but doable, and due to direct sun ray, it was very difficult to walk in uphill. We reached at Deoria Tal about 11:00 a.m. As we reached there we saw the majestic Chaukhamba welcome us with water of Deoria Tal. We could not see the reflection of Chaukhamba due to late arrival. The reflection of Chaukhamba in the crystal clear water of Deoria Tal creates a magical world.
According to the
Hindu mythology, it was the place from where the mighty Pandavas were asked queries by Yaksha. The lake is surrounded in a soothingly inclined field bounded by a deep wood cover. Set majestically in the lap of the magnificent mountain peaks viz. Chaukhamba, Nilkantha, Bandarpunch, Kedar Range etc.We could not help us to stay there for more than an hour, because we had another journey to Tunganath.
